BLACK/GAY/stuck at home
BLACK, GAY, stuck at home is a project created by Michael Ward and Joshua Henry Jenkins. During the COVID-19 pandemic, they created the space out of a need for affinity and community during isolation.
BLACK, GAY, stuck at home is an effort to both gather queer folx of color together but to also center Black queer film and television allowing for folks to connect with one another in isolating times but to also engage with familiar and perhaps new media that tells THEIR stories.
The inaugural viewing and live chat featured Patrik Ian Polk's 2000 feature film debut Punks which has long been out of print. That event saw 500+ registrants. The series has since welcomed Rodney Chester, Jazzmun, Doug Spearman, Vanessa L. Williams, James Ijames, Sampson McCormick, Darryl Stephens, and many more for 25+ screenings.
The series has partnered with National Youth HIV/AIDS Awareness Day, The Counter Narrative Project, Black AIDS Institute, Black in Media, Wilma Theater, and the Black Theatre Network.
Vanessa L. Williams and Richard Schenkman join BLACK/GAY/stuck at home for a special virtual screening of their film “A Diva’s Christmas Carol” in 2020.
